The State Tretyakov Gallery has a long tradition of working with children. Two creative studios for children operate at the museum today.

The childrenΓÇÖs studio on Lavrushinsky Pereulok opened in 1989.
It accepts children aged between 4-10. Experience demonstrates that the earlier children become conscious of the world of art and the museum, the greater their artistic potential. It is the development of the aesthetic and creative elements in children which is the studioΓÇÖs main objective and distinguishes it from ordinary art schools. Children tour display halls, visit exhibitions, watch slides and learn how to express their emotional feelings through art: drawing, collages, studies and items made of clay etc. The leader of each studio group works according to their own individual programme. Classes are taught by art experts, artists and museum teachers.
In May 2002 the Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val opened another studio: The Creative Workshop for Children under the patronage of Johnson & Johnson Co.
Located right next to the 20th century art exhibition, it is a creative centre for children oriented at modern art. Children can draw, produce work and create their own artistic projects. Flexibility and variety in the programme which has been developed for children, helps them to improve their skills and understand contemporary art - vital today. In addition they gain knowledge of artistic culture in the 20th century. The ChildrenΓÇÖs Creative Workshop plans to run master classes of famous contemporary artists, hold inter-museum projects and organise festivals.
In the future the museum will hold special graphic classes, a ceramic workshop and a centre for IT creativity. In recent years special events have taken place, for example, organising childrenΓÇÖs exhibitions: "Russian Winter", "Holidays and Fun", "The Creative Studio of an Artist. In the 20th century".
